Review: Eau Good Duo by Black + Blum
Recently I was sent a prototype of a new water bottle - the Eau Good Duo from Black + Blum.
The Eau Good Duo is a water bottle that uses charcoal to filter tap water. They do already sell water bottles that do this, but they're really for home use rather than sports or outdoor use. The charcoal softens the water, adds good minerals like calcium, removes chemicals and absorbs unwanted tastes and odours.
I'll be honest - I wasn't hugely convinced about this; I've heard about these sorts of things before and didn't believe that they would make that much of a difference to the water.
Eau so good...or not?
So did it work? Watch the video (and my highly scientific experiments) to find out...
Some final thoughts
I'm really surprised at how much of a difference the charcoal made to the taste of the water. I was sceptical, but am happy to hold my hands up and say it did work. However, as a friend pointed out: eight hours is quite a long time to wait for your water - and what happens if you drink your bottle of water really quickly? Does that mean you have to wait another eight hours before you can drink from it again?
I suspect that if you're in the UK you won't notice the difference too much; even in areas of hard water the water generally tastes ok. So if you just refill the bottle and need to drink it again straight away you won't have too much of a problem. I'm writing and testing this from Cyprus though, where the water does taste a bit odd and we use water filters or water machines instead. So waiting eight hours is beneficial, but quite annoying if you want to wait for the charcoal to work its magic.
How to pledge
As I mentioned in the video, the Eau Good Duo is a prototype and in the early stages of development. Black + Blum are hoping to raise £15,000 to bring the water bottle to the market in 2018. If you're interested and would like to help, visit their Kickstarter page here - but be quick, they're not too far off their target and they only started on 1st November!
Help the environment!
Finally, whether you pledge or not, I would encourage you to use a refillable water bottle. 480 billion (billion!!!) plastic bottles were sold in 2016 and on average only 1 in 5 is recycled. The rest either end up in landfill or in our oceans, which is seriously affecting marine life. Not only that, but you'll be saving money as well if you refill at home rather than buying a new bottle of water.
Thank you to Black + Blum for supplying me with the Eau Good Duo for review. This was an independent review and the company did not in any way influence my opinions while I was testing this product.
